Dr. Gary Morris

Doctor
Dr Gary Morris

Dr Gary Morris is a Family Physician, who established his practise in Scottburgh in 2006. He has been in the medical field for over 45 years and worked in the Ugu Region since 2001.

He was at school at Pretoria Boys High and, after qualifying in 1981 at the University of Pretoria.

After a short stint at the Johannesburg General Hospital, he worked in various roles in the Okhahlamba District in the Okhahlamba (northern Drakensberg) area of KZN. In 1986 he obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and did his Masters in Family Medicine at MEDUNSA.

During the 16 years in the Okhahlamba area he worked as a Medical Officer in Emmaus Hospital, and later ran the clinic and primary health care service, while based at Oliviershoek Clinic. Dr Morris was director of the Okhahlamba Child Survival Project and District Health Co-ordinator. This was an exiting time of learning new skills, interacting with many committed and interesting local people and visitors and developing a better understanding of South Africa and its health, political, social and economic issues.

While in the Ugu District, he worked in the rural clinics and as Chief Medical Officer at G.J. Crookes Hospital. In 2004-2005 he was the Principal Family Physician at Wentworth Hospital Durban. During these years he did locum work in general practices in Ireland.

As the practice is situated near the Aliwal Shoal, a prime international diving site, Gary did the open water diving course which prompted him to get into diving medicine and do the BScMedSci (Hons) in Underwater (Diving) Medicine, at Stellenbosch University and

later did the Certificate in Travel Medicine, through Wits. He is therefore able to offer the services of a travel and dive clinic.

Gary is married to Karin Volker and they have 3 adult daughters. They have had a property in Pennington since 1988
