Medical Service
Umdoni Medical Practice provides a traditional, non-dispensing general medical service daily (Monday to Friday, as well as Saturday mornings), with assessment of acute and chronic ailments, injuries and follow ups, minor surgical procedures, cryotherapy, immunizations and wellness checks.
Our more specialized focus is on diving medicine, travel medicine and immunisation, diabetes, mental health, geriatric care and palliative care.
Nursing services include assessment and management of minor ailments, wound care, immunisations, blood taking, pap smears and baby wellness.
The practice works in conjunction with MRK Biokinetics in providing Discovery Vitality Health & Fitness Assessments locally and in Durban
We do house calls when these are appropriate to the situation.
- An after-hours G.P. emergency medical service is available weekdays, and shared with the other G.P.’s in the area over weekends.
- We use the medical services of the new Hibiscus Scottburgh Private Hospital, and will admit or refer people there, as appropriate.
- Our practice will also refer to hospitals and specialists in Durban and the South Coast, or further afield if necessary. The practice has a good connection with a wide range of local specialists.
- Lancet, Ampath, and Global Laboratories collect specimens from our practice several times a day, and forward results to our us.
- The practice uses a computer-based patient record system which is confidential and backed up in the ‘cloud’. Only the health care practitioners have access to the health records. Administration staff only have access to the administration information.
- We are incrementally improving our accounting programme, telephone system and other electronic communication.
- The practice charges medical aid rates, and in a network practice for many options, including Discovery Key Care. Dr Morris is a Discovery Premier Plus GP practice.
- We are registered to do Vitality Assessments for Discovery.
- Payments can be made by EFT, credit card, Zapper and cash. In line with almost all businesses these days, we no longer accept cheques or cash deposits into the bank account.
