Update on Commercial Diver Examinations

Umdoni Medical Practice paused our examinations of Commercial Divers in May as there was uncertainty about a regulation from the department of labour requiring diving medical doctors to have a Diploma in Occupational Health in addition to the diving medicine qualification.

SA underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine has clarified the situation and we can now:

• Examination & certify all Commercial Divers working internationally.
• Examination & treat all diving related medical conditions in recreational divers.

Divers working within South Africa will however have to see a diving doctor with an occupational qualification for the present.
SAUHMA is currently working to get this changed.

We will, therefore, resume the medical examinations certificates of Commercial Divers who work internationally.
